Letters from Dr. Daiter's Patients
| |
I first went to see Dr. Daiter in the summer of 2001 after I found him on the Internet. I saw Dr. Daiter because of a history of pelvic
and abdominal pain. Dr. --, Brooklyn, New York, had previously diagnosed my pain as endometriosis through a laparoscopy procedure.
In 2001, I decided to find a doctor because I moved to New Jersey from New York. Also, my doctor in NY did not provide me with much
information on the disease and only spent several minutes with me to discuss it. In 2001, I found myself in great pain and searched
for a new doctor.
Dr. Daiter performed a laparoscopy procedure on me in September of 2001. He was extremely informative and had an empathetic bedside
manner. I remember visiting his office about a week before the procedure in which he spent an hour taking me through the procedure,
step by step, discussing what would take place.
Within weeks after the procedure, I went to follow up with Dr. Daiter. He gave me pictures and a detailed diagnosis. Again, this
was not a hasty procedure. He spent time with me telling me about a tube that was closed (that he reopened) and about where the
endometriosis was, and how he lasered it out.
In August 2002, my husband and I moved to (out of state). My husband was with the United States Department . as a federal agent.
Within a few months of living in (out of state), we decided that we wanted to get pregnant. After trying for several months,
we were concerned about my endometriosis and searched out the advice of Dr. Daiter. The closest fertility specialist was about
200 miles away. I trusted Dr. Daiter and knew he would give me advice.
In July and August, 2003, Dr. Daiter ordered some lab work for me. Dr. Daiter took the time out to order my tests while I lived out
of state, not knowing if I would ever return to New Jersey as a paying patient.
In August 2003, my husband and I returned to New Jersey to attend a funeral. I called Dr. Daiter and asked if he would perform a
hysterosalpingogram. That week, Dr. Daiter performed the procedure, and informed me that everything was fine and that my tubes were
still open. Within a couple months, I was pregnant.
Unfortunately, while pregnant I suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum (severe morning sickness). I was bedridden and on intravenous
fluids and nutrition for several months. I was unable to drink or eat anything for several weeks and vomited 20-30 times a day.
At 17 weeks gestation, my doctor was unable to find the baby's heartbeat and it was determined that the baby had died. Two days later,
I delivered my daughter, who was cremated.
The loss of my daughter could be from my doctor's lack of knowledge of hyperemesis. Perhaps with better care, I would still be pregnant
today. However, I do not blame my doctor in (out of state). He was very caring and supportive of what happened to me. I also know
that my loss deeply touched him. I believe that it will also make him more cautious and aware in the future.
Since our loss, my husband and I have decided to move back to New Jersey to be closer to family and specialists before we try to have
another baby. My doctor out of state claimed that if I get pregnant again out of state, that I would need to travel to another state
for a high risk pregnancy specialist. I feel safe going back to New Jersey and seeking the help of Dr. Daiter. I also know that if
he is unable to help me, he will point me in the right direction for further assistance.
